The Belcher chain originated in Britain in the 18th century, and was named after the Champion bare knuckle boxer Jem Belcher. This jewellery chain is similar in style to a trace chain but rather than having uniform links they are wider than they are thick. Generally the links are round, but the shape of the link can vary. In its finest form it is known as a baby belcher chain. This type of jewellery chain is also known as a rolo/rollo chain.
